Blog & News:

the weekend and a new demo

Apr 20th, 09

Good morning to all,

I enjoyed a weekend at home, although I fell ill on Saturday. I'm not sure of what exactly, but I believe it may be linked to excessive drinking and lack of sleep. However, I managed to make it to see Travis (not a person, but the band from Scotland) on Saturday evening, and it was an absolutely incredible show. If you haven't heard them or seen them, I recommend buying The Boy With No Name (this is their second to most recent record) and/or seeing them live as soon as you can. In addition to the best stage presence I've witnessed from any band, they allowed one of their fans to propose to his girlfriend (now fiancee) on stage.

Many of you have sent me thoughtful messages and emails about my new picture. Some of these notes have included concern that I'm not smiling in this picture. Just to clear the air: I'm not clinically depressed, and I still smile a lot. Sometimes, I even smile all day. This picture is from a photo shoot. Photo shoots can include very serious expressions and very funny expressions. In this particular shoot, I also took some pictures jumping up and down by a graffiti mural, sitting by a pickup truck, walking down a street in Brooklyn and hanging out in a bar. Guess which one of those locations was the most comfortable for me.

I posted a demo this morning on Myspace that I recorded in my closet with a banjo, two guitars, a gourd, two shakers, hot rods and a harmonica. It's called "Time, Be Kind." I hope you enjoy it.

For anyone that lives in the glorious state of Indiana, we're playing the Muscatatuck River Music Festival on May 9, and it's a great event with plenty of great music and great people. Check out the site for some more info HERE. Hope to see plenty of you there for the day and evening.

Let's see...I think that's all for now. Hope everyone's well on this fine, fine Monday.
