Blog & News:

new york and the blue ridge mountains

Jul 20th, 09

Hello dear friends,

I write to you this morning as I drink a second cup of coffee and reflect on the many hours of driving I did last week. I enjoyed New York as I always do. You have to stay out too late and wake up too early there because there is too much to see. Thanks to the good friends I got to see at the show on Wednesday. The setlist was:

Ain't No Hurry
One for the Road
White Roses
Annabelle
Hesitate
Steep Hope
There Comes A Time

After New York, I traveled to Charlottesville, Virginia. It's a nice Southern town with a lot of Thomas Jefferson history. I got a haircut, bought some used books and visited some of the local drinking wells in town. My drive back to the Midwest trekked through the Blue Ridge Mountains, which was one of the more inspiring trips I've had in quite some time.

While I've been away from the road for much of the past few months, this trip got me very excited about the prospect of a new record, which we will hopefully record by the end of the year. Until then, I posted a new tune for you at Myspace to check out called "A Burning House."

A Burning House

Light a match
Somedays I can't see
Far enough
Somedays I can't breathe
It's only luck, I know, that's taken me right here
How do you keep good love in the clear
How do you keep good love in the clear

When everything has been forgotten
I'll carve your name into the floor
Of a burning house I've let my heart get lost in
Keep the keys, lock all the doors

I'll take a chance
I'm only 25
It ain't romance
that's helping me get by
It's these dead end streets, I know, that keep me moving night to day
How do you keep good love out of the way
How do you keep good love out of the way

When everything has been forgotten
I'll carve your name into the floor
Of a burning house I've let my heart get lost in
Keep the keys, lock all the doors

Let it burn
All the pictures in the hall
Let it burn
Watch it fall

When everything has been forgotten
I'll carve your name into the floor
Of a burning house I've let my heart get lost in
Keep the keys, lock all the doors
